“Clown, our inner idiot”
13.4.2020 – 24.4.2020 Monday – Friday from 10-16h
Everybody has his own, very personal clown. To discover him is not always easy, but to meet him is a very particular moment in the life of a stage performer. The discovery of the own clown is a huge potential for the performers freedom on stage. It is something that everybody should discover at least once in his/her life!
Use your very personal and wonderful stupidity to be irresistibly funny and gain an immense freedom on stage. A certain kind of human stupidity is a wonderful quality, it is a gift, given to all of us by nature. Together with our very personal stupidity we explore our ridiculous side: We become aware of it, we fear it, we want to hide it, we accept it, then we show it with pleasure and discover an incredible joy and freedom.
The clown has his very own poetry, „the poetry of an idiot“
When we show with great pleasure our ridiculous side, this very special, sparkling light appears in our eyes, which precedes the appearance of the clown. Once you discovered your personal clown, you will never want to miss him again!
Mr. Flop, our feared friend. The actors eyes are shining while playing with the flop, a very important and feared friend, without whom the clown can not exist.
The clown is convinced that he is a genius. “Today I will be great, you will see…“ says the clown to himself every day and like every time also today everything goes wrong. When the clown shows his enormous pleasure while he is failing, we love him and like children we look forward to his next flop.
Movement:
For me, every kind of existence in front of an audience begins with the body. “Here I am with my whole body and mind!”
Therefore, the class begins with intensive movement training every day. This training is specially designed for the following class and is an indispensable part of the workshop. Elements of acrobatics (everyone, regardless of age or size, can do it because we work with the personal needs and limits of each individual), awareness and group training, energetic dance, stretching and relaxation exercises, yoga, Pilates, shiatsu and Feldenkrais are part of this training.

Ready to be outstanding on stage
It is not about technique in the first place. In every person she searches for his/her candidness, vulnerability and his strength, which contributes to the discovery of an open, direct, inventive, joyful and individual play on stage, whatever stage that might be. For Nicole any kind of work on stage or in front of the camera starts with the body: joyful exchange with the audience through physical sensitivity, vulnerability and the presence on stage form an essential basis for an outstanding performance as musician, singer, dancer, speaker, presenter, acrobat…
connect with the audience – you have 30 seconds to convince
Nicole about her work
“Man is only completely human where he plays” (Friedrich Schiller)
Game, joy and pleasure are the engine for fast learning, not only in children but also in adults. Adults get a stronger connection to their childlike parts and emotions through playing, which have been forgotten due to the strong emphasis on the mind. In my lessons we play games like children and with the same seriousness.
In class I combine my knowledge from all stage disciplines with what I have discovered over the years, what makes people appear exceptional on stage or in front of the camera.
I feel very pleased of having worked as an actress and dancer, aerial artist and teacher all over the globe. I got to know different countries and their cultures which enriched me as a person and teacher a lot. My studies include music, dance, circus arts, and acting. Having united all these stage disciplines in my teaching, I started to focus on what I discovered as a fundamental piece to connect emotionally, directly and without compromise with the audience.
Empathy, sensitivity and joy is crucial for mutual understanding with your audience on a verbal and non-verbal level and as a consequence for greater success.
I teach stage performers who want to widen their horizons, their experiences, who want to recharge their batteries. I teach people who want to develop a very personal, physical, unconventional and extremely joyful approach to their performance on stage and who want to stand out from the crowd.
My work is about the student himself and his uniqueness as a speaker, singer, musician, performer, acrobat or actor.

Teaching experience
At 20 years old Nicole startet teaching movement. Besides her coaching and teaching activity for stage professionals over the past 30 years around the globe, she taught voice at the Scuola Dimitri in Switzerland and movement and acting at the Ecole Philippe Gaulier in London and Paris for 13 years. In 2011 Nicole Kehrberger established the International Theater Summer School in Berlin. Today her teaching and coaching activity operates under the name NK onstage.
Award winning actress
Nicole has a long lasting experience as an award winning actress, acrobat, aerial artist and dancer on international stages and she combines all those disciplines in her teaching.
During the quest for the individual beauty, she tosses etiquette, theories, styles and masks into the wind. In every person she searches for his candidness, vulnerability and his fragility, which contributes to the discovery of an open, inventive, joyful and individual presentation.

Nicole about her teaching:
“I feel very pleased of having worked as an actress and dancer, aerial artist and teacher in the whole world. Throughout the past 30 years I developed my own teaching method connecting my knowledge from all stage disciplines with what I have learned about how to be outstanding on stage.
Be outstanding on stage, what ever stage that might be
I teach people who want to widen their horizons, their experiences, who want to recharge their batteries and get a very personal, physical, unconventional and extremely joyful approach to their acting/ performing, and who wants to make the difference. Be outstanding on stage, what ever stage that might be.
What people say about her work:
*Outstanding. Inspiring. Unique.*
After attending Nicole’s workshops I can positively say that I have grown as a musician. Her creative and innovative approach to the performing arts, combined with her wonderful charisma and passion in transmitting to others her knowledge, brings out the best in each person. I realise my stage presence has improved, my confidence onstage has grown, and my approach to each piece / performance, goes beyond the music and the storytelling, and dives into the different layers of human nature. Even my voice coach was amazed at how much my voice had grown after the workshops I attended. I continue to reap the fruits of the work that we have done together. The opportunity to attend her workshops is -without a doubt- an event no performer should miss out on, what you discover during the work together, you get from no other course, masterclass or University degree.

Confidence
She reignited my confidence and belief in myself and enlightened my perspective as an actor. I basically learned to have fun again. And whenever I am working and I feel stuck I always refer back to what Nicole taught me. She’s simply brilliant. I feel very lucky to have worked with her..’
…I wouldn’t be what I am as performer and director if there hadn’t been Nicole.“
Marco, actor and director, Italy
„Nicole s workshops contain a highly physical training (Yes, real sweat! But don’t worry, you don’t have to be an acrobat) and approach, but are not to be confused with “physical theatre” as a genre. She is a wonderfully demanding teacher with an enormous capacity of observing, identifying and working on the strong and weak points of every single participant, with joy/fun as an essential buddy of the work. Her strength lies in focusing on sensitivity, awareness and truthfulness in action and interaction. So, it’s not about techniques in the first place, but on YOU in your uniqueness as a performer.“
Anne, director, Germany
Nicole is one of the best and enjoyable teachers I’ve ever had. Whether it comes to theatre or acrobats, she makes every day, and every hour interesting, fun, diverse, and powerful. The lessons I’ve learned from Nicole will stay with me for many years, and I will always remember her not only as a teacher, but as a great, and totally honest friend. If anyone can have the opportunity to have a class with her, I would tell them they are lucky and enjoy every minute of it. she’s awesome.
